Innacurate Humidity Reading, Calibration Does Not Work Apr 20, 2008
By Alex H I compared this unit with a "Western Humidor Caliber III" hygrometer which I had tested in a controlled environment (75.5% Humidipak Calibration Kit). The Caliber III unit was dead-on which surprised me since I only paid $20 for that. The Extech was off by between 8% to 10%. The Extech has a calibration screw in the back so I tried calibrating it to match my other hygrometer but the screw doesnt even do anything!!! It just pointlessly TURNS! The temperature however was accurate. FINAL THOUGHTS: I'm buying another Caliber III Hygrometer and returning this one. The Caliber III is accurate within 1% Relative Humidity.

Dew point display is helpful Jul 13, 2008

Dew point display was the feature that made me buy this product. It has worked well, has a long battery life, and is accurate. The dew point shows how much humidity I can safely add in the winter without condensation forming on the windows. It also indicates the efficiency of the air conditioner in the summer. "Delta T" (the change in temperature, the temperature of the intake air minus the temperature of the chilled air) shows how much heat the air conditioner is removing. Since the a/c also removes moisture, the dew point tends to be the same as the evaporator plates, which is the temperature of the chilled air. (Unless you live in a dry climate.) So, just noting the difference between the ambient air and dew point indicates the efficiency. It is amazing how much more efficient the a/c is in the morning, when the outside temperature is in the 70s versus how little chilling happens in the afternoon in the 90s. I quit running the a/c in the mid afternoon, and save a few buck on the electricity. It is a fine product. Spread the word about the dew point!

Dew point Review Oct 28, 2008

This instrument seems to work just fine. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that it has to be calibrated by a lab from time to time. All instruments of this type have to be, so I cant vouch for its accuracy. But I have NO worries on this score. Its nice to see the humidity and dew point as a day may seem a good one to do heavy work but it will be unpleasant ( sticky) above a certain dew point/humidity even though the temperature may be quite cool. You soon get used to seeing if its a 'good day' or not.

Humidity reading drifted, calibration doesn't work Dec 28, 2010
By Jon Voskuil I've had this for 2-1/2 years. At first it seemed to compare well to two other humidity sensors I had. Over time the humidity reading has drifted downward, and it now reads about 15% low compared to the other sensors. As other reviewers have reported, the humidity calibration screw does not work -- unlike the temperature calibration screw, which works fine.
So I'd echo the suggestion made by another reviewer that if you buy this, you should check the operation of the calibration screws right away instead of waiting until you need to use them. (On mine these screws were covered by small foam pads that I had to peel off. Don't make the mistake of trying to "adjust" the nearby Phillips-head screws that hold the case together.)
I would have expected better from Extech.

A little knowledge goes a long way Feb 02, 2009
By TW Renovator Great little humidistat. I've looked at this tool every day since new. Makes you more aware of your surroundings and I keep it next to my computer for safety's sake of not overheating the stack.
Large display and optional settings make this a "must have" for anyone who's interested in seeing what their home or work place environmental conditions are currently and over time.
I used it on several wood flooring installs where the humidity levels can affect installation.
