Programmable Thermostat Dec 31, 2005
By B. Jenkins For the price you really can't beat it. It was cheaper than Hunter and Honeywell 7 day models. It looks nicer than the Hunter models as well.
Installation was very easy, and the programming directions are very easy to follow. Since it's a 7 day model, you can have a (different) program for each day.
You set the time/temp for MORNING, DAY, EVENING, and NIGHT. You can set this for each day, or use the COPY button to apply it to the next day.
I also like the backlight feature which stays on for 20 seconds at the push of the LUX button.
Check out the product manual for all the features. I definitely recommend it.

Clean Air Feature a God send Oct 31, 2006
By J. Morano I searched for a thermostat that would run the system fan without running a heat or cool cycle. The LUX CAG1500 does just that.
I always found it uncomfortable and stuffy if my heat or AC did not cycle on due to the outside temperature and there was no air circulating in the house. This thermostat can control the system fan by running it mulitple times an hour for a pre-set duration without needing to run heat or AC.
I have tried just leaving the fan on constantly with other thermostats and never liked the option.
LUX did a great job coming up with this feature on their thermostat.

Great deal Dec 04, 2008
By J. Fritz The guy who installed my Aprilaire humidifier recommended a Lux thermostat since they're the only ones that allow a fan-only duty cycle (he could've installed it for significantly more $$ than what it is here). They advertise it just for circulating/cleaning the air, but when you live in a semi-arid climate and need a humidifier even in warmer temps the only other option is to run the fan all the time. I got the CAG1500 and went through the easy installation and programming instructions. The instructions tell you, though, that the minimum duty cycle for the clean air fan is 9 min./hour and there are 4 time periods for each day (morning, afternoon, evening, night) just like the temperature programming. Just don't forget to set the fan mode to "Clean" since the "Auto" and "Fan" modes are the ones that every thermostat has. They also designed this with the batteries in the faceplate so you don't lose your programming if you take it off the mount (unlike my Honeywell). Overall, it's a great product for the money.

Clean Cycle sounds good. May 28, 2008
By G. Bonnstetter I have wanted an affordable thermostat like this for a long time. I like the adjustable fan on time. It helps filter the air in the spring and fall when the heating and cooling are not running much.
But it seems this version has a small bug in the software. I have a LP gas furnace so I put the jumper on "gas" on the back. Well the "Clean Cycle technology" on this version does not run the fan extra when it is heat mode and the gas jumper is in. So the workaround is to leave the jumper off in the "electric" heat setting. But then the furnace fan blows cold air while the furnace is warming up.
So if you have electric heat, this is a good thermostat. If you have gas heat and don't mind the fan starting before the furnace gets warmed up, again, it's a good thermostat.
For me I didn't want the cold air so I rated this a 3. When I called, Lux didn't have a fixed CAG1500 available so I'm sending mine back to Lux.
Also, this thermostat is for a 1 stage heating and cooling system.

Great programable thermostat - allows you to program fan as well. Aug 02, 2009
By William R. Johnston

I bought this thermostat to replace a much older programable thermostat that was already installed when I bought my condo. I wanted a thermostat that I could program the fan as well as the heat and the A/C. As I have two floors, heat tends to rise to the top, so in the top floor is much warmer than the first. I use the fan to help level out this, bringing warm air down in the winter and cool air up in the summer. It also like how the fan being on allows the air to circulate through the HVAC filter, helping reduce dust and pollen, both of which I am allergic to. Wiring the thermostat was no problem, as you simply note how the old thermostat is wired and wire this one the same. It comes with wire labels, to help keep track of what wire goes to what post while the old thermostat is off.
The unit is incredibly easy to set up. It has four settings per day (morn, day, eve, night), and allows you to override the programmed setting by raising or lowering the temperature. The override will stay in effect until the next programed time period. It also has a vacation hold, which lets you hold the temperature until your unhold it, allowing you to set it to a higher or lower temperature while you are gone for extended time periods.
The majority of the controls are under the lower panel (see Lux's website for a picture of the opened unit, as well as a PDF of the manual, which I found useful to review before I bought). There are three buttons outside of the panel, which allows to you raise and lower the temperature, as well as turn on the back lighting. My unit makes a faint high pitched noise while backlit, similar to old indiglo watches. The buttons are not back lit, which would have been a nice touch if they were, but we have a light switch right below the unit. The buttons have a click to them as they are pushed, but have to be pushed a bit harder to actually make a change - this seemed like a larger problem than it really is while I still had the unit detached from the wall.
The unit is smaller than my older unit. I had to repaint some of the wall behind it, as the older unit left marks on the wall being larger than this unit. The unit is 3" high by 5.25" wide (Amazon lists the packaging dimensions, not the unit's dimensions).
