Portable Shop-Vac 991910 Mar 07, 2012
By Seldon Bradley If your primary use is to clean out your car, this vac may be your best choice. It has plenty of vac power, comes with a 30' power cord and a 6.5' flex hose. My use for a hand held vac is to clean out corners around the house that the upright misses and the junk that collects under the bar stools during the week. Unfortunately, the set only supplies one 20" solid tube - leaving me 18" short of the floor. There does not appear any way to order another section. The machine is acceptably quiet - 75db at ear level (Dyson upright hits 85/90db).
For carrying around by the handle, this vac is awkward - very nose heavy - the on/off switch is difficult to get to - 1 1/2 inches past my thumb. Carrying it around with the included nylon strap helps - still can't get to the on/off switch. The side latches have been changed to solid plastic and seem adequate.
In terms of performance this machine is very much like the Oreck XL that I also own. Orick's vac suction is the same, somewhat quieter - db70 at ear level. Oreck is one pound heavier, has an 18' power cord and a 4.5' flex hose.
What is not mentioned is the price of the Shop Vac bags -(part #901-46)5 pack, $14 = $2.80 per bag, vs. Oreck XL bags (part #pkbb12 dw) 12 pack, $8.70 = 73 cents per bag. Note, however, that the Oreck XL is $30 more than the Shop Vac. Ah, Mr. Socrates, do you prefer a cup or a mug?

portable handheld vac Feb 16, 2011
By Lizzer This is an amazing convenience! Purchased to do the "edging" on the carpets and get into small spaces... this is useful for the car, the garage...anywhere. Powerful and easy to handle. A keeper.

This vacuum can double as a leaf blower (have yet to try out). Pros: well made, good suction, portable. Cons: No case. Hope this helps.

Poor design Oct 09, 2011
By PCA I bought this item based on positive reviews, paying more than comparable portable vacs. The two piece case is held together with plastic and wire latches on each side. The design of these is very flimsy. One continued to fall off the case and eventually got lost. I've now found a new use for that marvelous fix-all duct tape but it ain't pretty.

We have a larger vacuum that didn't come with any attachments so needed a smaller handheld one that we could use to get into those spaces better- like the sides of the fridge, behind it, behind the loo-sides of walls-behind sofa etc. etc. and THIS IS PERFECT...and its not heavy to hold and has a strap you can put over your shoulder to walk around with it. Plus it has all sorts of good attachments to clean with--and my hubby likes that it can vacuum out the cars etc. too..great purchase, glad we got it (and we looked a long time too)
